摘要

Friction welding is a solid-state joining process that can avoid many common defects associated with fusion welding methods. In this research, carbon steel rods of two different grades (St37 and Ck22) were welded using rotary friction welding. The microstructure of the welds and the adjacent areas was studied. The effects of rotational speed and forging time on the mechanical properties of the weldments were investigated, considering the microstructural aspects. For this purpose, tensile and microhardness tests were performed, along with fractography examinations. The optimum process parameters, in terms of mechanical properties, were determined to be a rotational speed of 1400 rpm and a forging time of 8 seconds. This study can aid the development of this environment friendly process for joining low-cost structural alloys.
