<p>The present article summarizes the current literature on perioperative systemic therapy. It outlines the patient’s journey from diagnosis to tumor conference to therapy in a&#xa0;pragmatic manner. We also raise critical points for discussion. The presentation is guided by the authors’ clinical experience, which fills gaps in the scientific evidence. A&#xa0;comprehensive, detailed discussion of the literature and highly individualized case planning cannot be expected and would exceed the scope of this article.</p>
