<p>This article in the <i>Zeitschrift für Psychodrama und Soziometrie</i> presents a&#xa0;therapeutic process with an adolescent patient. It outlines how adolescents can be supported through psychodramatic interventions during the phase of identity formation and separation from their parents. In this case study an adolescent is described, who has to face normative developmental tasks and parents with mental disorders. The case study shows, that this reveals a&#xa0;frequent shift in the therapist’s auxiliary ego roles. Auxiliary ego functions that reflect more regressive, childlike needs alternate with autonomy and exploratory role demands. Symbolization facilitates a&#xa0;process of mentalizing misunderstood dynamics and relationship patterns. At the same time, working with symbols facilitates the regulation of closeness and distance between patient and therapist.</p>
