Scham als Behinderung der Begegnungsfähigkeit

This article in the journal Zeitschrift für Psychodrama und Soziometrie deals with shame as an obstacle to inclusion. It discusses the conditions under which pathological shame arises and its impact on people’s ability to encounter others. Disability is understood as a factor that makes people more vulnerable to shameful experiences. Three types of pathological shame: intimacy shame, competence shame and shame of others are used to illustrate how shaming experiences can affect self-esteem and relationship regulation. Shaming and disabling scenes are used synonymously, in line with the social definition of disability from the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which focuses on the conditions that turn impairments into disabilities in the first place.
