摘要

This paper provides an overview of the effects of educational development of academic teaching staff at German universities since the introduction of the “Qualitätspakt Lehre”. It particularly focuses on the teaching competencies of lecturers. The results of thirteen primary studies examining the effectiveness of educational academic development programmes on teaching competencies are summarized in a systematic review and situated within a model of academic teaching competence. Since the dimensions of self-efficacy of lecturers and student focus show a sufficient number of studies, quantitative meta-analyses are conducted for these two sub-domains to investigate whether the effectiveness of educational academic development programmes can be empirically supported across studies. The results allow the conclusion that educational academic development programmes have a positive impact on the development of teaching competence—at least as measured by instructors’ self-assessment. Due to the limited number of studies, further research is necessary to support the evidence-based design of educational academic development programmes effectively.
