<p>While populism constitutes a&#xa0;major topic in political science research, anti-populism has received relatively little attention, even though it, too, is a&#xa0;defining phenomenon of present-day politics. The special issue “An Anti-Populist Moment,” which is introduced by this article, is conceived as a&#xa0;first step toward filling this gap. In taking stock of the existing literature on anti-populism and situating the contributions of this special issue in relation to it, we identify three main lines of differentiation that emerge in the study of anti-populism: first, the various definitional approaches to understanding the phenomenon; second, the relationship between anti-populism and (liberal) democracy; and third, the analysis of different manifestations of anti-populism.</p>

While populism constitutes a major topic in political science research, anti-populism has received relatively little attention, even though it, too, is a defining phenomenon of present-day politics. The special issue “An Anti-Populist Moment,” which is introduced by this article, is conceived as a first step toward filling this gap.
