Wer oder was arbeitet? Arbeitsbegriffe im feministischen neuen Materialismus von Donna Haraway und ihre Relevanz für die Arbeitssoziologie
摘要
New materialism has significantly shaped discussions on the Anthropocene and revealed the crisis of societal relations with nature. However, neither studies on the Anthropocene nor theories of new materialism possess a fully developed concept of work or labour. This is problematic because it excludes central mechanisms and causes of climate change and environmental destruction. Additionally, considering work and labour could facilitate a new critique of work and labour and the development of alternative forms of them. Against this backdrop, this article seeks to trace the understanding of work and labour in feminist new materialism. I examine the work of Donna Haraway and her understanding of work and work relations. As I will show, she distinguishes three concepts of work: work/labour, play, and composting. Each of these terms captures different dimensions of work relations between human and non-human actors and provides insights into how these can be ethically “well” designed and tested. In the following part of the article, I will explain the consequences of her concepts of work for the sociological study of labour, highlighting their potentials in particular. The article concludes with an outlook where I briefly outline some problems of Haraway’s concepts of work, which can serve as starting points for further investigations.
