„Good Night, And Good Luck“ – Anmerkungen eines Psychoanalytikers zum Film
摘要
“Good Night, And Good Luck” looks back at the US history of McCarthyism in the 1950s and also at the current global political situation, in which democracies are under pressure and authoritarian governments are gaining power. The film analysis highlights the existing, sometimes unsettling parallels and recalls the warnings, voiced years ago and now again with greater urgency, about the resurgence of fascist tendencies and practices. Although there have been efforts since the earliest days to apply psychoanalytic thinking to societal processes, it remains a romanticized notion to view psychoanalysis as a politically “revolutionary theory”. Psychoanalytic strengthening of the ego, on the other hand, can be a way to protect individuals from falling prey to anti-democratic or even fascist tendencies.
