摘要
The statistical figure “sickness rate” is understood by the business community and the public as a synonym for the state of health of the German working population. This value enables apparent comparisons between companies, sectors and even across national borders. In fact, it only shows a very small section of the true incidence of illness among employees. The aim of this article is to classify the seemingly eruptive development of the “sickness rate” in Germany in recent years, to show the effects of collecting and calculating this indicator and, using the example of mental illness, to relate it to the development of morbidity and chronic illnesses.
