摘要

This paper in the journal “Gruppe. Interaction. Organization. (GIO)” introduces the concept of tolerance of ambiguity and illustrates its relevance in current events. Generally speaking, tolerance of ambiguity is an important competence, also in the organizational context, in order to endure ambiguity and uncertainty as well as to remain capable of acting in times of crisis. After going into more detail about the origins of the concept, which dates back to the 1940s, the authors of the article highlight its high socio-political relevance based on the discourse about documenta 15, the controversy surrounding the conflict in the Middle East and the reactions to Correctiv’s revelations about the meeting of the “Neuen Rechten”. Following on from this, they show what can be derived from this for the organizational context. Finally, the article addresses the question of how tolerance of ambiguity can be learned and highlights its prerequisites.
