<p>This study examined the efficacy of bed sills in mitigating localized scouring around a smooth circular bridge pier under flow conditions approaching the critical threshold for sediment motion. Bed sills were positioned both upstream and downstream of the pier simultaneously, with their performance evaluated based on their proximity to the structure. The analysis established relationships between scour depth and key dimensionless parameters governing the system. Findings revealed that positioning an upstream bed sill in direct contact with the pier, combined with a downstream bed sill placed at a distance of up to two pier diameters, resulted in a substantial decrease in the maximum scour depth observed around the pier.</p>
