Selection of industrial aluminum alloy and study on high and low temperature performance of aluminum air battery
摘要
Due to its advantages of high energy density (up to 8.1kWh/Kg) and environmental protection and no pollution, aluminum-air battery (Al-air battery) has attracted extensive attention from researchers and the public in recent years. The commercial application of Al-air batteries is restricted by multiple factors, including poor maturity in standardization and distribution, uncertain management of oxide and hydroxide by-products, cost, complex practical usage environments and so on. In this paper, an anode alternative was developed using industrial aluminum alloys, among the three kinds of industrial aluminum alloys (1060, 6061, 7075), 1060 industrial aluminum alloy exhibited interesting properties with excellent alkaline corrosion resistance (Jcorr=260 mA cm− 2, Rt=0.381Ω). The discharge performance test results of high and low temperature of Al-air battery show that the home-made battery can discharge normally under the conditions of high temperature (0.92 V for high purity Al (HP Al) and 0.72 V for 1060 in 50 °C 6 M KOH at the current density of 75 mA/cm− 2) and low temperature (0.70 V for HP Al and 0.74 V for 1060 in 0 °C 6 M KOH + 0.5 M KCl at the current density of 35 mA/cm− 2), and the addition of KCl in KOH solution was conductive to improving the performance of low temperature discharge. The selection of anode materials (1060, HP Al) has little effect on the discharge results when the current density above 35 mA cm− 2@0°C and above 75 mA cm− 2@25°C, respectively. The research results of this paper can provide experimental data and research ideas for the low-cost application of Al-air battery in high and low temperature environment.
