Electrochemical behavior of carbonaceous sensing material for the analysis of melatonin hormone

Here, we provide a straightforward, highly selective, and sensitive voltammetric technique that uses a poly (glycine)-modified graphite carbon paste electrode (PGMGCPE) to measure melatonin (MT). It has been demonstrated that PGMGCPE responded sharply to MT oxidation. MT’s maximum potential was measured at 0.235 V relative to SCE. Conditions including pH, accumulation time, and scan rate were carefully optimized for the voltammetric measurement of MT. The relationship between oxidation peak current and MT concentration (4.0–30.0 μM) exhibits a broad range linear response. It was discovered that the MT limit of detection (LOD) on PGMGCPE was 0.73 μM. When MT was detected in the presence of different interfering ions, the suggested approach exhibits good selectivity. The technique was successfully used to analyze MT in actual sample. The approach provides good selectivity for MT detection at comparatively low potential as well as acceptable LOD and linear range.
