Synthesis, characterization, and electrochemical sensor application of Prussian blue nanocubes/Au nanocomposite for hydrogen peroxide sensing

Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were decorated on the Prussian blue nanocubes (PBNCs) using the in situ method. The synthesized nanocomposite PBNCs/AuNPs show enhanced electrocatalytic activity for H2O2 detection compared to the bare Prussian blue and gold nanoparticles due to the synergistic effect of AuNPs and PBNCs. The synthesized composites were characterized using XRD, SEM, TEM, FTIR, and Raman spectroscopy. In contrast, the electrochemical measurements used cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and amperometry. The PBNC/AuNP-based electrode shows improved electrochemical performance for H2O2 sensing, such as high sensitivity (up to 2138.2 µA/mM cm2) and limit of detection (LOD = up to 8.9 nM). Thus, the synthesized PBNC/AuNP material provides a simple, promising, cost-effective sensing platform for developing non-enzymatic electrochemical sensors.
