Directional design of fast-conductivity and porous Zn-based anodic materials for zinc-nickel alkaline batteries

Dendrites, passivation, and other adverse reactions impede ZnO from being a high-density anode in alkaline zinc-nickel batteries. With heat treatment and precipitation methods, ZnO nanosheets were uniformly grown on the surface of nitrogen-doped porous carbon (NPC), the composites named ZnO@NPC. ZnO@NPC, a new composite as the anode material of zinc-nickel batteries, was inspected for excellent cycle performance during the charge and discharge process at a high rate (8 C), and the capacity retention with a discharge specific capacity of 570.6 mAh g−1 is 97.54% of the initial discharge capacity (585 mAh g−1) after 2000 cycles. The approach suggested in this paper lends credence to the idea that ZnO@NPC is a promising material for zinc-nickel batteries in the near future.
