Phylogeny and taxonomy of Pucciniastrum sensu lato in South Korea, with the description of P. neorubiae sp. nov.
摘要
Pucciniastrum sensu lato (formerly encompassing a broader range of species within Pucciniastrum; Pucciniastraceae, Pucciniales) exhibits a broad host range, including various trees and herbaceous plants. However, its taxonomy in South Korea remains unclear. To investigate the diversity of Pucciniastrum species in South Korea, we collected rust samples through field surveys and loaned herbarium specimens. Molecular phylogenetic analyses using the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and large subunit (LSU) rDNA sequences resolved Pucciniastrum sensu lato into several well-supported clades, including two major genera: Pucciniastrum sensu stricto and Nothopucciniastrum. Through morphological investigations and sequence analyses, we identified ten species of Pucciniastrum and Nothopucciniastrum in South Korea, including three previously unrecorded species (N. boehmeriae, P. guttatum, and P. pyrolae) and a new species, P. neorubiae sp. nov., found on Rubia argyi.
