<p>During research on the diversity of fungi associated with plants in the Atlantic Forest areas in Brazil, four mycosphaerellaceous fungal isolates were recovered from leaf spot symptoms in <i>Philodendron</i> sp. The identification of the isolates was made by observation of morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analyses of LSU, <i>RPB2</i>, and ITS loci. Based on these data, a new genus of <i>Mycosphaerellaceae</i> was proposed as <i>Atlanticus</i> and a new combination as <i>Atlanticus philodendri</i> (Pat. &amp; Gaillard) E.S.O. da Silva, J.A.S. Melo &amp; A.R. Machado.</p>
