摘要

Background and objective

Students’ eating routines are often shaped by the temporal and organizational demands of academic life. University cafeterias play an important role in providing meals and structuring students’ daily routines. The aim of the present study was to investigate the organization of students’ eating practices as well as the use and significance of the university cafeteria within the academic context.

Methods

A qualitative research design was employed, including participant observations and semi-structured interviews with 28 students. Data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis.

Results

The university cafeteria was used not only as a place for food provision, but also as a social meeting point as well as a space for studying and spending time between classes. Its use was strongly influenced by time-related constraints, individual living situations, and the quality of the food environment.

Conclusion

The university cafeteria has considerable potential as a setting for measures that support students’ academic everyday life.
