Background <p>Patients in medical rehabilitation are a&#xa0;vulnerable group, who, due to their pre-existing conditions, are exposed to an increased health risk caused by climate change. Rehabilitation practitioners (RP), i.e., people who work in medical rehabilitation facilities, therefore need climate-specific professional health literacy to enable rehabilitation patients to deal with these risks. These skills are to be acquired as part of a&#xa0;future training program that is yet to be developed. Thus, this study aimed to assess the attitudes and knowledge of RP on the topic of climate change and health (CCH), as well as their needs and requirements for further training on this topic.</p> Methods <p>From August to October 2025, a&#xa0;quantitative online survey was conducted among RP. The iteratively developed questionnaire consisted mainly of closed questions.</p> Results <p>The sample (<i>n</i> = 417) is predominantly female (65%) and &gt; 51&#xa0;years old (48%). The majority of RP are concerned to alarmed (82%) regarding climate change and consider the topic of CCH to be relevant to medical rehabilitation (78%). Many RP who participated in the survey perceive it as their responsibility to empower rehabilitation patients to cope with climate-related health risks (55%). At the same time, the majority rate their own knowledge of the effects of climate change on the health of people with chronic pre-existing conditions and of adaptation strategies as only average or worse. Of the participants, 74% would be willing to participate in further training on the topic of CCH in medical rehabilitation.</p> Conclusion <p>The majority of RP surveyed are concerned about climate change. At the same time, there are knowledge gaps regarding specific health consequences and adaptation measures. The results indicate a need for appropriate RP training to acquire climate-specific professional health literacy and provide implications for the design of such training programs.</p>
