Ganzheitliche Gesundheitsförderung in Kitas in NRW
摘要
Health promotion in daycare centres has been implemented in North Rhine–Westphalia (NRW) through the “Certified Physical Activity Kindergarten with the Plus Point Nutrition (PPE)” (ABmPE) initiative and the additional module “Mental Health”. The prevention concept is offered by the state government and the statutory health insurance funds in cooperation with the state sports association (“Landessportbund”) of NRW. The initiative aims to promote children’s health as a triad of exercise, nutrition and mental well-being in daycare centres by training kindergarten staff and establishing quality standards.
Study design and research methodsThe evaluation of the PPE and the additional module “Mental Health” was conducted from January 2021 to December 2023 and funded by the “GKV-Bündnis für Gesundheit”, an initiative of the statutory health insurance funds. A mixed-methods approach was applied to identify potential for further development regarding structure and process.
ResultsSince certification as an ABmPE, improvements in food and beverage offerings are observed in the surveyed daycare centres. The daycare managers rated the PPE positively. Key facilitators of successful implementation included support from providers, sufficient financial and spatial resources, and a committed team. Challenges included limited staffing resources. The daycare directors highlighted the high importance of mental health.
ConclusionOverall, the evaluation results show a high level of satisfaction among daycare centres with the offered programs. Potential for further development includes expanding the concept and achieving broader implementation. The findings suggest the need to develop a strategy for the long-term sustainability of the programs.
