摘要

Background

Perceived safety, as an aspect of patient safety, is of relevance in the digital transformation of the healthcare system and has an influence on the implementation of digital technologies in healthcare. Therefore, the aim of this study was to derive recommendations for indicators to monitor emotional and psychological safety in the context of digital transformation in healthcare.

Study design and research methods

A Delphi survey using anonymous and nonanonymous Delphi techniques was used to evaluate a formal group assessment process with 21 factors (potential precursors of indicators) that were rated as very likely, particularly significant and influential with regard to the context of feelings of safety and digital technology.

Results

Sixteen factors can be used as a basis for developing indicators and/or scales. Recommendations concerned an initial classification of the perceived safety with the related factors and outcomes, which allows to operationalise the perceived safety and make it measurable on a scale.

Discussion

The experts argued further research is necessary to develop standardised indicators for monitoring perceived safety.

Conclusion

The 16 factors could be used scientifically as a starting point for indicator development. However, these must be defined according to their purpose, the setting, and taking into account implementation aspects, and analysed against the background of scientific quality criteria. The perspectives of experts, caregivers, and patients can be particularly helpful for practice-related concretisation.
