<p>The literature on choosing learning management systems (LMS) is not as extensive as anticipated, given the technology's widespread use in various educational settings. The existing literature generally falls into two categories. The first category offers straightforward assessments of individual solutions or compares two or more LMSs. Typically, this literature discusses how tools or sets of tools support a specific approach to teaching and learning or a particular population of learners. The second category outlines detailed methodologies for identifying the most relevant criteria for selecting an LMS. This paper discusses a case study of a needs assessment for selecting a Learning Management System (LMS). The authors developed a methodology to identify the crucial features necessary for an LMS or other instructional technology based on established research in learning design and technology, ensuring it remains practical and adaptable across various contexts.</p>
