Integrating Investment Dashboards in Introductory Analytics Courses for Business Students
摘要
Dashboards have become a crucial element of contemporary business operation and management; therefore, it is desirable for business students to acquire knowledge of them. This article investigates the effectiveness of designing learning activities around investment dashboards in the context of introductory business analytics (IBA) courses. We design relevant topics, assessment items, and computer tutorial sections using problem-based learning and a constructive alignment approach. Learning activities are structured around a case study in which students learn to collect data, import data into dashboard templates, visualise data, analyse data usings statistical concepts, and present how to use the completed dashboards in making business investment decisions. We use data from student surveys to assess the impact of learning activities on the academic performance and experience of students. Additionally, details of our assessment design are documented, to serve as potential resources for instructors seeking to develop similar courses.
