Highly Sensitive D-Shaped Photonic Crystal Fiber Surface Plasmon Resonance Sensor Based on Elliptical Notch
摘要
This paper introduces and fully studies a novel D-shaped photonic crystal fiber (PCF) refractive index (RI) sensor that is based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR). In contrast to the conventional D-shaped structure, an elliptical notch coated with gold film was employed to achieve SPR. We conducted a comprehensive study using the finite element method (FEM). The suggested SPR-PCF RI sensor can pick up RI levels between 1.33 and 1.42. Its maximum wavelength sensitivity (WS) is 44,300 nm/RIU, and its highest resolution is 2.26 × 10−6 RIU. The resonant wavelength of the sensor was not shifted when the diameter of the circular air holes changed, which proved that the sensor is more tolerant by allowing a large mismatch in the manufacturing process. The sensor exhibits high linearity at RI between 1.35 and 1.40, which is advantageous for measuring changes in the concentration of certain cancer cells. Because it is highly sensitive, can detect a wide range of substances, and is very stable during manufacturing, the PCF-SPR sensor has a lot of potential for use in biochemical sensing and environmental monitoring.
