<p>The mycosynthesis of nanoparticles, the process by which fungi synthesize nanoparticles through biological mechanisms, has emerged as a promising, eco-friendly alternative to conventional physical and chemical methods of nanoparticle production. Despite increasing growth designs and production of nanoparticles, for a wide range of various applications, there is currently no in-depth review that demonstrates these recent developments of the same for production of metallic nanoparticles, thereby creating knowledge gaps in this field. The process of mycosynthesis produces a large yield of proteins and enzymes, and the nanoparticles are more biocompatible than those produced by traditional methods. Among other organisms, fungi make a suitable option for the production of metallic nanoparticles because they secrete large amount of proteins, thus increasing productivity, and their easy usage in the laboratory. Thus, this paper attempts to give a thorough overview of the mycosynthesis of nanoparticles, emphasizing the kinds of fungi that are employed, the processes that lead to the development of nanoparticles, and the physicochemical properties of the final products.</p>
