A High Sensitivity Refractive Index Based Sensor for Detection of Acetone Concentration in Wastewater
摘要
This work presents a numerical MATLAB simulation framework for designing and evaluating a high-sensitivity refractive index (RI) sensor specifically for detecting wastewater acetone concentrations. The primary focus was on obtaining improved sensitivity over the existing configurations and performing a feasibility study on whether the configuration could also be utilized in the detection of other volatile organic compounds in water. The study and design of the sensor are carried out using a simulation platform based on the transfer matrix method (TMM). The increase in the RI in the acetone concentration caused a shift in the resonance angle; the range of values was 1.34 to 1.37. The numerical results demonstrate that the proposed sensor has a maximum sensitivity of 502.51 degree/RIU. The deposition of zinc oxide (ZnO) and vanadium dioxide (VO2) layers over the silver layer, with aqueous solutions acting as the analytes, has improved the performance of the sensor probe.
