摘要

This article provides an analytical overview of the evolution of maritime archaeology in modern era contexts (sixteenth-eighteenth centuries [c.]), focusing on the French experience as a case study for broader European epistemological shifts. While post-medieval archaeology is now a cornerstone of European research, maritime studies only recently moved beyond a focus on “famous shipwrecks” toward a holistic social approach. This paper defines the “historical turn,” the shift from processual laws to particularizing narratives, and examines the integration of the Maritime Cultural Landscape (MCL) concept. By contextualizing French developments within earlier Nordic and Anglo-Saxon legislative and theorical frameworks, this study argues for a multi-scalar approach that bridges the gap between material culture and historical archives.
