Diversitätssensibilität in der Weiterbildung Diabetesedukation
摘要
In 2025, individuals from diverse backgrounds reported experiencing unequal treatment within the German healthcare system. Empirical studies indicate that persons with a migration background are at an increased risk of developing diabetes mellitus. Moreover, progression of the disease and the severity of related complications tend to be more pronounced within this population group. Consequently, it is imperative to integrate the topic of diversity into professional education and training. A comprehensive understanding of a heterogeneous patient population is essential to delivering equitable and effective care. Diabetes educators must acquire diversity-sensitive competencies early in their training. This entails critical engagement with personal norms and values, questioning underlying attitudes, and reflecting on potential value conflicts. Failure to address these aspects may result in inadequate or unprofessional behavior. Therefore, the cultivation of a reflective and diversity-sensitive professional stance should be an explicit objective of training programs, accompanied by the implementation of appropriate methods and instructional tools that support diversity in clinical practice. The overarching goal is to ensure that every individual is recognized, respected, and valued irrespective of ability, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, language, age, gender, or sexual orientation.
