Warum sind Menschen mit Diabetes infektionsanfällig?
摘要
People with diabetes are particularly susceptible to infections due to a combination of hyperglycemia, immune dysfunction, and comorbidities such as obesity and chronic kidney disease. Persistently elevated glucose levels impair both innate and adaptive immunity, promote inflammation, and accelerate immunosenescence. Studies have revealed an increased risk of bacterial, viral, and fungal infections—including coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and herpes zoster. Infections can further deteriorate metabolic control and lead to long-term complications. Vaccination is therefore essential, alongside targeted treatment of metabolic risk factors. Early vaccination counseling, especially in older adults, is a key preventive strategy.
