<p>Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) is now an integral part of intensive insulin therapy for persons with type&#xa0;1 diabetes and, increasingly, for persons with type&#xa0;2 diabetes. In combination with an insulin pump and an algorithm in automated insulin delivery (AID) systems, CGM improves glycemic control, reduces the number of hypoglycemias, and makes everyday life easier for people with type&#xa0;1 diabetes. Successful therapy requires active user participation as well as structured training and support from experienced diabetes care teams. These CGM and AID systems also support self-efficacy and motivation to manage diabetes, and training programs provide practical knowledge in this area. Nevertheless, barriers remain: stigma, access barriers, or personal burdens can make use difficult. Older people and people with cognitive impairments can also benefit from these technologies, provided that they receive qualified support at the start of therapy. It is important to set realistic expectations before starting a&#xa0;new technology. Technical instruction, targeted training, clear goals, and regular support are the basis for success. Usually, AID is started on an outpatient basis in several phases. This paves the way for greater safety, better metabolic control, and an improved quality of life.</p>
