<p>An essential foundation of modern diabetes therapy is diabetes technology, comprising glucose sensors, injection aids, and insulin pumps/automated insulin delivery (AID) systems. These aids improve the lives of people with diabetes. However, the increasing use of aids—mostly single-use products—also means an increasing amount of therapy-associated waste. The systematic quantification of the waste generated by people with diabetes under real-world conditions was carried out in a&#xa0;study in a&#xa0;specialized diabetes practice in Germany for the first time. The results show a&#xa0;surprisingly large amount of heterogenous waste. The study participants were interested in the topic from the very beginning. They significantly changed their attitude towards waste generation and disposal during the study period. They were open-minded to changes, demanded more sustainability in their therapy, and were ready to make their own contribution. They expected support and clear positioning from politicians, associations, and health institutions. Joint action by all institutions involved is needed. The goal is to improve sustainability of diabetes therapy. Responsible use of our resources, waste reduction, and recycling are already possible today and can be further improved without reducing the quality of treatment.</p>
