Übersterblichkeit bei Diabetes
摘要
Mortality among people with diabetes is still higher than that in the general population.
Materials and methodsNarrative review of relevant studies and presentation of the most important current results on excess mortality with diabetes and its communication.
ResultsExcess mortality with diabetes has been decreasing with increasing age and over time for years, both globally and in Germany. When communicating excess mortality with diabetes, a number of other, more intuitive measures can be reported on the absolute time scale in addition to the hazard ratio. For example, in Germany there is a loss of life expectancy for a 20-year-old person with type 2 diabetes of 9.0 years for men and 7.8 years for women compared to people of the same age without diabetes.
ConclusionThe decline in excess mortality associated with diabetes is probably due to better prevention and treatment of diabetes and its risk factors, but is also partly due to artifacts caused by diagnosis and screening. This also poses challenges for health systems because the number of people with diabetes is increasing.
