Chirurgische Therapie der Adipositas

In Germany the increasing prevalence of morbid obesity is accompanied by a significant increase in number of metabolic and bariatric procedures. Metabolic and obesity surgery are effective in positively influencing clinical and biochemical manifestations of the metabolic syndrome in morbidly obese patients. Restrictive and hypoabsorptive procedures lead to a loss of excess body weight loss and amelioration of comorbidities. These changes are the result of metabolic and neurohumoral changes resulting from the surgical procedure. Neurohumoral changes are currently not completely understood. Knowledge of humoral changes and weight loss as well as new surgical techniques have influenced bariatric procedure selection. Standard procedures and selected new techniques are discussed in the following article.
