Precis, The Expressive Self, by Ángel García Rodríguez (Lexington Books, 2024)
摘要
In The Expressive Self, a contrast is established between two views of the self, alternatively based on the abilities for reflection and expression. In addition, the book defends the expressive view of the self, first because it avoids the incoherence to which the reflective view of the self falls prey; second, because it provides more clarity about three first-person puzzles (namely, Moore’s paradox, self-deception, and McKinsey’s paradox); and third, because it successfully meets potential challenges from self-reference and first-person authority.
