<p>The theory of arbitrary reference states that some semantic facts are brute. Haze claims to have articulated a <i>reductio ad absurdum</i> of this theory, and, recently, he defended this <i>reductio</i> from a rebuttal earlier advanced by Meléndez Gutiérrez. In this paper, I contest Haze’s defence, and argue that his absurdity charge on the arbitrary reference theorist is unsound.</p>
