Does Philosophy Make Less Progress than Other Academic Fields?
摘要
This paper looks at different possible measures of progress and argues that we currently have no objective measures which are appropriate for comparing the progress of entire fields. I look at several possible measures, including one measure suggested by Chalmers: increased agreement on correct answers to the big questions in that field. Regarding the question that the title of this paper asks, I think we should remain agnostic; we are not currently able to say whether philosophy makes less progress than other academic fields.
