Move fast and break things: Mapping the intellectual structure of the speed of the internationalization process to develop a research agenda for further inquiry
摘要
The speed of the internationalization process is typically defined through two key dimensions: earliness – the time elapsed between a firm's inception and its first entry into international markets – and post-internationalization speed – the rate at which a firm expands its international operations after initial entry. Given the growing scholarly interest in both dimensions and their relevance to firms, this study offers a comprehensive overview of the field's development and trajectory. Drawing on an integrative literature review of 200 articles, the analysis combines Correspondence Analysis (CA) with a Delphi study of prolific academic experts focused on the speed of internationalization. Key trends are identified and visually represented through a proximity map, which delineates four thematic regions. These regions are examined in depth regarding their content and underlying dynamics. Finally, the study highlights existing research gaps and outlines promising directions for future inquiry..
