<p>This study conducts a bibliometric analysis to systematically examine the evolution, research trends, and future directions of smellscape studies from 2004 to 2025. Utilizing the PRISMA framework and CiteSpace software, we analyzed 232 peer-reviewed articles from the Web of Science database, revealing contributions from 56 countries and identifying four key research hotspots: (1) smellscape creation methods, emphasizing perceptual mapping, technology integration, and biophilic design; (2) multidimensional landscape equity, highlighting the interplay of sensory experiences in urban environments; (3) urban odor control, addressing governance models and technological innovations; and (4) odor healing and health promotion, underscoring the therapeutic potential of aromatic environments. The study proposes a Smellscape Impact Model integrating environmental drivers, perceptual mechanisms, and socio-health outcomes, bridging gaps between environmental science, neuroscience, and urban planning. Case studies from Pittsburgh, Beijing, and Kano illustrate diverse governance approaches, emphasizing adaptive frameworks to balance technological efficiency with social equity. Methodological challenges, including regional biases and quantification limitations, are critically discussed. This research advances sensory urbanism by synthesizing fragmented knowledge, advocating for cross-cultural collaboration, interdisciplinary integration, and policy-oriented applications to align smellscape studies with sustainable urban development goals. Findings provide theoretical and practical foundations for future research, emphasizing the role of olfactory environments in enhancing urban well-being and ecological equity.</p>
