Background <p>Plyometric training is widely incorporated into combat sport conditioning; however, its effects on neuromuscular, physiological, and psychological performance in Taekwondo athletes remain insufficiently understood and inconsistently reported. Therefore, this systematic review aimed to synthesize the current evidence regarding the effectiveness and practical relevance of plyometric interventions in Taekwondo athletes.</p> Methods <p>A comprehensive literature search was conducted across ScienceDirect, ProQuest, Scopus, PubMed, DOAJ, IEEE Xplore, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar for studies published between 1990 and 2024, with an updated search performed in September 2025. Seventeen randomized and quasi-experimental studies met the inclusion criteria. Data extraction was performed according to the PICO framework, and methodological quality was assessed using the modified Downs and Black checklist.</p> Results <p>The available evidence generally demonstrated favorable effects of plyometric training on lower-limb power, vertical jump performance, sprint speed, agility, anaerobic capacity, and kicking-related performance in Taekwondo athletes. Additional benefits were observed in balance, neuromuscular control, and perceived exertion, although these outcomes were evaluated less consistently across studies. Nevertheless, substantial heterogeneity in study populations, intervention protocols, outcome measures, and methodological quality, together with small sample sizes, limit the certainty and generalizability of the findings. Evidence regarding cardiovascular, anthropometric, and psychological outcomes remains limited and inconclusive.</p> Conclusion <p>Plyometric training appears to be a promising strategy for enhancing explosive and sport-specific performance capacities in Taekwondo athletes. However, further high-quality randomized controlled trials employing standardized, sport-specific protocols are required to clarify long-term adaptations, subgroup-specific responses, and the transferability of these adaptations to competitive performance.</p>
