Objective <p>To evaluate the influence of domain-specific physical activity on the mental health outcomes in pregnant women.</p> Methods <p>We accessed the level of physical activity, anxiety, depression, stress, and self-esteem scores of ninety pregnant women. A correlation matrix between the variables was obtained by Spearman’s test, and associations between categorical variables were analyzed with chi-square test. Three linear regression models were adjusted to evaluate the variation of stress, anxiety, and depression scores according to the predictor variables, and the backward stepwise procedure was used to obtain the final model.</p> Results <p>A positive correlation was observed between energy expenditure in occupational activities and anxiety (rho &gt; 0.22; <i>p</i> &lt; 0.05). Leisure activities were negatively correlated with stress, anxiety, and depression scores (rho &gt; 0.28; <i>p</i> &lt; 0.010) and positively correlated with self-esteem scores (<i>p</i> &lt; 0.05). Linear regression models showed that the higher energy expenditure in household activities was associated with higher scores of both depression and anxiety. In addition, lower energy expenditure in leisure activities, and lower self-esteem score were related to a higher anxiety score.</p> Conclusion <p>Leisure physical activities are associated with better mental health, while occupational activities are related to worsening in this outcome during pregnancy.</p>
