<p>Recently, disruptions have led to rising uncertainty; hence, it has become crucial to predict disruptions to manage and anticipate this uncertainty. Convergence has been a major driver of disruption during recent decades. This ex-post case study aims to examine the efficacy of predicting disruptive innovation (DI) caused by a digital product based on convergence via two promising frameworks: the disruptive susceptibility (DS) of a market and the disruptive potential (DP) of a technology. The case study in this paper explores the significant disruption caused by smartphone navigation technology in Germany’s car navigation market, impacting traditional global positioning systems (GPS) and industry players. The approach of this research is based on replication of the DP and DS frameworks to a new market, as replication is essential for ensuring consistency and demonstrating the applicability of these frameworks across varied innovation types and drivers. The DP of smartphone navigation technology corresponds to actual market development, thus extending its applicability. However, the DS framework does not indicate high susceptibility to market disruption. Therefore, we suggest that convergence-driven disruption represents a boundary condition for the DS but not for the DP framework.</p>
