Compact Triple Band Ring Shaped Planar Antenna for WLAN/WiMAX Applications

The innovative design presents a new hexagonal ring-shaped microstrip antenna capable of operating at triple-band high-gain for WLAN/WiMAX and 5G applications. The antenna structure comprises concentric circular ring patches with a single feed line via a modified plus-shaped structure, resulting in a triple band that enhances return loss, gain, and radiation pattern. The antenna’s geometry has been adjusted to improve impedance matching at the prescribed frequency bands. Test results affirm that the proposed triple-band antenna features a compact structure, favorable return loss, consistent omnidirectional pattern, satisfactory gain, and bandwidth across all distinct bands. The proposed antenna delivers gains of 3.51dBi, 4.91dBi, and 5.23dBi with efficiencies of 92%, 90%, and 95% at 2.4/3.5/5.5 GHz, respectively. Moreover, the bandwidth in the triple band spans 230 MHz, 880 MHz, and 230 MHz at the first, second, and third resonant frequencies, respectively. The proposed triple-band antenna provides sufficient bandwidth to support WiMAX, WLAN, and 5G applications, positioning it as a promising solution for future wireless communication systems.
