摘要

Device-to-device (D2D) communication has been recognized as one of the promising paradigms for supporting the next generation of cellular networks, it brings several benefits in terms of reducing time delay for communication, and providing better spectrum efficiency. However, energy consumption in D2D communication is a big challenge due to the limited operational lifetime of the devices’s batteries. Traditional energy harvesting strategies, such as harnessing energy from solar, wind, vibrations, and ambient RF radiation, are constrained by environmental factors like weather, movement availability, and RF source density. Recently, Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) has emerged as a solution to these limitations, providing a stable and controllable energy source that ensures sufficient power at user terminals whenever needed. This article used stochastic geometry to analyze the transmitter device’s lifetime in the context of D2D under laid communication mode and to stand out the outcome of the RF energy harvesting model on the device’s lifetime. First, the expression of expected transmit power was proved using its cumulative distribution function, then the lifetime of transmitting devices under Rayleigh fading has been derived. Furthermore, the effect of the RF energy harvesting model on extending the device’s lifetime has been highlighted. Finally, analytical and simulation studies are realized to prove the value of our analysis.
