A Review and Comparative Analysis of PAPR Reduction Techniques of OFDM System

摘要

Multi-carrier (MC) communication technology has numerous advantages over single carrier modulation technology such as it is spectrum efficient. OFDM has a history of continuous development by time. The concept of OFDM is based on dividing the spectrum in to low rate sub-carriers and placing these sub-carrier orthogonally. The orthogonally placing the subcarrier and adding cyclic prefix in OFDM signal enhance the characteristics of the transmitting signal such as immune to selective fading, high spectral efficiency and no ISI. The characteristics of the OFDM attract the wireless communication and it is considered for wireless data transmission in Wi-Fi and Wi-MAX standards. OFDM is also adapted in the mobile communication and LTE. In LTE, for using OFDM in uplink area, the high PAPR is the major drawback. To reduce high PAPR of the OFDM, many techniques have been proposed and these techniques are divided based on the requirements and parameters availability. In the present work, a literature review and comparative analysis of some well-known PAPR techniques have been done.
