Acute cholecystitis complicated with hepatic abscess caused by rare heterogeneous mucoid Salmonella Enteritidis: case report and literature review
摘要
Patients with local infections caused by non-typhoidal Salmonella often have a history of malignant tumors, immunosuppressive therapy, HIV, etc. We describe a rare case of cholecystitis with liver abscess caused by heterogeneous mucoid Salmonella Enteritidis in a diabetic patient. Mucoid and non-mucoid Salmonella Enteritidis were isolated from the patient after the initial surgery and upon recurrence, respectively. Multilocus sequence typing (MLST) identified both isolates as sequence type ST11. We analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of biochemical reactions, serum agglutination tests, and MLST for identifying mucoid Salmonella. This report also reviews cases of mucoid Salmonella and discusses the potential effect of hyperglycemia on mucus formation in Salmonella.
