Source Apportionment of Sediment Organic Matter in an Urban Lake Using Stable Isotopes and Bayesian Mixing Model: A Case Study of Qianhu Lake, China
摘要
Urban lakes serve as vital freshwater resources and key components of urban ecosystems. Sediments constitute significant reservoirs of organic matter within lake systems. Identifying the sources of sediment organic matter (SOM) and elucidating factors controlling their distribution are fundamental to understanding biogeochemical processes and carbon cycling mechanisms in lake ecosystems. This study collected surface sediments from Qianhu Lake, an urban waterbody in Nanchang City located in southeastern China. Concentrations of total nitrogen (TN) and total organic carbon (TOC) were measured, alongside stable carbon (δ13C) and nitrogen (δ15N) isotopic compositions. The quantitative source apportionment of the sediment organic matter sources was conducted using the Bayesian stable isotope mixing model (MixSIAR). The results revealed TN and TOC concentrations ranging from 0.10% to 0.21% and 0.68% to 1.46%, respectively. The δ13C values varied between -27.30‰ and -26.47‰, while δ15N values spanned from 2.42‰ to 8.92‰. Source contributions were dominated by plankton-derived sources (79.4 ± 5.0%), followed by soil organic matter (10.3 ± 2.6%) and sewage inputs (6.0 ± 1.7%). The methodology developed in this study enables reliable qualitative-quantitative assessment of sediment organic matter sources, providing critical insights for urban lake management strategies.
