摘要

The increasing contamination of water bodies by industrial effluents, especially azo dyes, poses a serious environmental threat. In this study, we report the development of a highly efficient MoO3/NiFe2O4 nanocomposite photocatalyst for the degradation of Congo red dye. The composite was synthesized by ultrasonication of sol–gel-derived NiFe2O4 nanoparticles and hydrothermally synthesized α- MoO3 nanorods. Structural and morphological analyses confirmed the successful formation of the composite. The photocatalyst exhibited excellent activity, achieving 90.9% degradation of 5 ppm Congo red solution within 30 min under UV light, attributed to effective band gap tuning that reduces electron–hole recombination. Additionally, the composite demonstrated antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, along with good stability and reusability. These results suggest that MoO3/NiFe2O4 is a promising candidate for the remediation of dye-contaminated wastewater.
