摘要

Progressive syndrome of acquired dental disease (PSADD) is common in domestic rabbits and is often associated with chronic gingivitis, which compromises quality of life. Conventional treatment involves prolonged use of antimicrobials and anti-inflammatories, which may cause resistance and adverse effects. Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and regenerative properties, suggesting its therapeutic potential. This pilot study evaluated the effects of CAP as a complementary treatment for gingivitis associated with PSADD in a domestic rabbit. Two applications of the plasma jet were performed on the gingiva of the incisors, with an interval of seven days. The CAP was generated with helium gas at 2 L/min, 1.2 W power, 1.08 mA current and 10 Hz frequency, with application time of 30s/cm² of the affected area. Efficacy was assessed by clinical and histopathological scores before and after the intervention. The results indicated a significant reduction in gingival hyperemia and edema, in addition to the inhibition of the inflammatory infiltrate and regeneration of the lamina propria. After treatment, the patient also presented weight gain of 100 g, suggesting improvement in general well-being. These findings reinforce the potential of CAP as a complementary approach in PSADD, reducing the need for prolonged pharmacological therapies and promoting tissue regeneration.
