<p>In this conceptual paper, the author argues that neoliberalism compels people to violate vitality rights in urban education and in school in general. They consider how approaches to urban teaching and learning might pay attention to and advocate for vitality rights despite the presence of neoliberalism that permeates educational institutions. They conceptualize the radical affirmation of difference as an educational stance and place that position in relationship with vitality and vitality rights in education. Next, they juxtapose the affirmation of difference with neoliberalism by considering how the need to control and be controlled is at odds with vitality in schools. Throughout this writing, the author argues that vitality rights in education will continue to be violated unless neoliberalism is reckoned with.</p>
