Regional distribution and seasonal histomorphology of cell types of pars distalis adenohypophysis of Gaddi goats: A comparative study between the year 2001 and the present in the context of climate change

The present study investigated the regional distribution and seasonal histomorphology of acidophil, basophil, and chromophobes within the pars distalis adenohypophysis of Gaddi goats, with reference to changing climatic conditions, then (2001) and Now. Pituitary glands from 35 adult Gaddi goats (seven per season) were examined using standard histological techniques. Acidophils constituted 42–48% of adenohypophyseal cells, showed highest concentrations in the caudo-ventral (52.8±1.07%) and mid-peripheral (60.1±1.4%) regions. Basophils accounted for 17–21%, predominantly localized to rostro-dorsal (26.6±0.31%), rostro-ventral (24.2±0.63%), and mid-medial (26.4±0.71%) regions, while chromophobes were mainly distributed dorsally, peaked at (43.2±0.71%) in the rostro-dorsal region. Seasonal analysis revealed a significant decline in basophils during monsoon (17.5±0.78%) and a surge in chromophobes during summer (38.4±0.63%). Whereas the percentage of acidophils was highest during the monsoon, with a mean percentage of (48.4±1.97%) and found lowest during the spring season (42.0±1.79%). Comparative evaluation with previous seasonal histomorphological studies revealed discernible alterations in the cellular dimensions of acidophils, basophils and chromophobes over the time. These changes may reflect the influence of rising temperature and humidity over the past two decades, potentially affecting the spatial distribution and functional dynamics of pituitary cell types in Gaddi goats.
